La formation de Charpenterie-menuiserie ouvre la porte à un monde de possibilités sur le marché du travail. Charpente, fondation, plancher, toiture, escalier, isolation, finition intérieure et extérieure, portes et fenêtres, les finissants acquièrent une grande polyvalence qui leur permet d’accéder à une multitude d’emplois stimulants. Pas surprenant qu’il s’agisse de la formation comptant le plus d’élèves inscrits au Centre Construc-Plus, à Saint-Eustache!

L’établissement accueille chaque année cinq cohortes d’étudiants, francophones et anglophones, ce qui vient confirmer la popularité de ce diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP)… et les grands besoins en ce domaine.

«Charpentier-menuisier, c’est un métier qui mène à plusieurs horizons. Les débouchés sont très bons. Tous nos élèves sont engagés avant d’avoir fini», précise Guylain Boudreau, enseignant en Charpenterie-menuiserie.

Au cours de leur formation, les futurs charpentiers-menuisiers apprennent à construire et installer tout ce qui se rapporte à la structure du bâtiment et aux éléments de finition. Ils touchent à tout, de la cave au grenier.

Il y a bien sûr un volet théorique, mais l’essentiel de l’enseignement repose sur des ateliers pratiques. D’ailleurs, au Centre Construc-Plus, les élèves ont la chance d’avoir accès à des outils et des plateaux de travail modernes et stimulants. «On fait de vrais murs, un vrai toit… On construit même une maison à l’intérieur de nos locaux», souligne M. Boudreau, qui compte 22 ans d’expérience à titre de charpentier-menuisier et quatre ans en enseignement.

Des témoignages inspirants

Alex Fortier Côté, 30 ans, arrive au fil d’arrivée. Il obtiendra très bientôt son diplôme et il se sent fin prêt pour le marché du travail. Pour lui, qui avait déjà de l’expérience comme journalier, ce retour sur les bancs d’école lui permet de donner un nouvel élan à sa carrière, en misant sur un métier spécialisé.

Catherine Vachon a elle aussi trouvé sa voie avec le DEP en Charpenterie-menuiserie. «C’est un emploi qui bouge et qui va me permettre de créer quelque chose qui a de la valeur. J’avais besoin d’un métier qui va aussi vite que moi», témoigne-t-elle.

La femme de 27 ans s’est d’abord inscrite à ce programme dans le but de bâtir sa propre maison écoresponsable. Emballée, elle aspire maintenant à une carrière dans le secteur de la construction écologique.

Ayant l’anglais comme langue première, elle est heureuse de prendre part à l’actuelle cohorte anglophone et salue l’aide apportée par les professionnels en soutien pédagogique. «Ça aide à suivre le “beat”», dit-elle.

Le DEP en Charpenterie-menuiserie est un programme de 1 350 heures réparties sur 10 mois. En cours d’année, des cohortes francophones et anglophones démarrent en alternance. Les inscriptions pour le groupe en anglais qui débutera en juin sont acceptées dès maintenant. Pour les groupes en français, il est possible d’inscrire son nom sur une liste d’attente. The Carpentry training course opens a world of possibilities on the job market.

Frame, foundation, wood or metal floors, roof, stairs, insulation, interior and exterior finishes, doors and windows, the graduates acquire a wide range of valuable skills giving them the opportunity to have access to a large choice of stimulating careers. It is no surprise that this program has the highest enrolment rate at Construc-Plus Centre, in Saint-Eustache!

Every year, the Centre accepts five groups of students, French and English, which confirms the popularity of this Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS), and the high demand of workers in that field.

«Carpentry is a profession that leads to many career choices. The job opportunities are very good. «All of our students are hired even before they graduate», says Guylain Boudreau, teacher in the Carpentry training course.

During the program, the students learn to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures. Carpenters carry out a variety of tasks.

Of course, there is a theoretical part, but the main part, the practical experience, is given through workshops. Besides, at Construc-Plus Centre, the students have access to stimulating and advanced technological tools and equipment. «We build real walls, a real roof… We even build a house inside the shop», says Mr. Boudreau, who is a carpenter with 22 years of experience and has been teaching for four years.

Alex Fortier Côté, 30 years old, has almost finished the course. He will soon receive his diploma and he feels he is ready for the job market. Although he did have some experience in the field, the fact that he took this course is giving him the opportunity to reach higher goals by getting a job in a specialized field.

Catherine Vachon also found a new career path with the Carpentry DVS. «It’s a dynamic job that will give me the opportunity to create something of great value. I needed a fast-paced career to fit with me», she claims.

The 27 year old woman first enrolled in this program to build her own eco-friendly house. She is so excited that she now wants to have a career in the eco-friendly construction business.

Since English is her primary language, she is happy to be part of the English cohort and appreciates the support she gets from the professional pedagogical advisors. «It helps keep up the pace», she says.

The DVS in Carpentry is a 1350-hour program, over a 10-month period. During the year, the French and English groups will start alternately.
